REVE by RENE

Hailing from from Des Moines, Iowa, Rene Chu studied Product Development at Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in LA. This former model then moved to Hong Kong where she began her modeling career – and her infatuation with eye wear started. Inspired by the idea of sunglasses as the quintessential high-fashion accessory, Rene sketched her very first interpretation of the perfect pair, and the rest is history!

Leigh Lazark. Her style is a little gothic yet simple with a splash of femme fatale. She is mysterious but still very elegant.

Uncontrived, comfortable and femme fatale.

ONG SHUNMUGAM

StyleDesigner Priscilla Shunmugam read law at the National University of Singapore and was always well dressed for lectures. After graduating, she decided to pursue her passion for fashion and spent a year in England, studying dressmaking and pattern cutting at the London College of Fashion. Upon her return to Singapore, she developed womenswear label, Ong Shunmugam. In November 2012, she was voted Singapore Designer of the Year at the 2012 ELLE Awards. In 2013, she became one of the youngest ever nominees for Singapore’s President’s Design Award 2013 in the “Designer of the Year” category, and was recently invited to speak at the Museum of Chinese in America in New York.

Carine Roitfeld. The kind of treasure she’s probably amassed over the years will be priceless.

Can you sum up your style in three words?
Linear. Functional. Proportionate.

Career highlight
Ong Shunmugam being selected to show at Paris Fashion Week in 2012, and it was our first runway show! There I was backstage, asking the producer, “So, what do I do now? Where do I stand? How do I bow?” It was a beautiful evening and the beauty of it is that I hadn’t even dared to dream that big.

LING WU BAGS

StyleEducated at the prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, it was in London where Ling was first exposed to the myriad of diverse styles and aesthetics – which she would then distill to her eponymous brand. Ling’s quiet approach to design paired with her Asian heritage has resulted in a sense of shape and colour that is unique to Ling Wu Bags. Her keen sense of design is matched by a meticulous attention to craft. She travels across the region to source for the finest materials and finishing details, and oversees the hand-treated leather processing and handwork that completes each piece in her collection.

Whose wardrobe would you like to raid?
Patti Hasen. She was a famous model in the seventies who married rock star Keith Richard. She dressed like a tomboy with a flirty edge and I can imagine her wardrobe to be full of buttoned down shirts worn with high-waisted denim and thigh high boots. Very rock and roll! She is the inspiration for my SS15 collection.

Flirty, edgy and tomboy.
